About Pit Stop Bully's Rescue

Mission: To Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome unwanted/abandoned/abused American Pit Bull Terriers and other Bully Breed types suitable for adoption; To Educate the public on this breed and the importance of becoming  responsible owners through spay/neuter programs, obedience training, proper housing,etc...;To Teach people unsure of this breed to put aside their prejudices, and have an open mind to the possibility of a great companion.

Vision: To see more Pit Bulls and Bully Breed types adopted from shelters/rescues into responsible and educated homes; thus decreasing the amount of them being euthanized. To see more owners partake in Spay & Neuter opportunities and be educated about overpopulation in the Bay Area.

I have an undoubted devotion to the American Pit Bull Terrier & Other Bully Breeds. I have worked in rescue for quite some time now and couldn't imagine my life any other way than surrounded by these dogs! They are the most loyal, loving, smart, trusting, tenacious, energetic and attentive dogs I've ever known. They are my passion and I vow to find them their perfect FOREVER homes! In my 'Perfect World', we would take all of them out of these shelters and find them their own families. Unfortunatelly we do not have the resources to do so.

So we pick the candidates that are or have the potential to become Breed Ambassadors.

These dogs can do amazing things...But it all depends on YOU as an owner!

Meet My Pack!

Cassidy

(5 year old, Female)

Cassidy was my first personal rescue after having my son & she is, without a doubt, my heartdog. She was the pup of a neighbor of mine... Neighbor got pregnant and was looking for a home for her. I really had my heart set on adopting a shelter dog (APBT), but while visiting with the pup I saw her get hit in the face twice. There was no way around it. I immediately walked out of the door with her in my arms. Cassidy is a Boxer/Beagle mix. She is a very independent gal. Cass is the dog I use to Temperament Test new rescues, as she's completely Dog Friendly or just ignores the other dog. She's never been in any altercations, but will give warning if annoyed by the other furkids...

No matter the amount of Pit Bulls I have in my home, she rules the roost and they all know it.

Ichabod Crane

(3 year old, Male)

Ichabod was my first Foster Failure when I co-ran HAPBTR, back in the day. He was saved from Hillsborough County Animal Services, with a horrible case of Demodectic Mange. His coat was so sparse and he was the itchiest thing I'd ever seen. Cassidy adored having Ichabod around so much but he'd eventually been adopted out. Within a week of his new adoption, I had to go and take him back. I have to admit, I cried the entire week he was away from me. I was a complete mess! It's taken a lot of work getting "Icky" to look the way he does now. He was on a very strict medicine and vitamin routine for almost 2 yrs. He's so well worth it though. He makes me proud of him all the time! Ichabod is one of my "public events" dogs, as he does well in any situation!  He has also graduated Basic Obedience, and received an awesome, passing, score with the American Temperament Test Society! Can't wait to take this lovable lughead further!

Dharma

(4 year old, Female)

Dharma came to me while I was working Quarentine at my SPCA. There was a call for a Police Pick-Up: Pit Bull, so off I went. Dharma was all wags and smiles when I got there. She looked to be in pretty good shape other than some scratches/bites from another dog or possibly a cat. She came back to "Q" with me while she was on stray hold. After 14 days, no one claimed this beautiful dog. Dharma got attached to me very quick and refused to eat when I was off on the weekends. I knew she was my dog. She has proven to be such a faithful, loyal and great companion animal. She provides me with endless hours of pure entertainment and I couldn't imagine her not being in my pack.  Dharma is my total "Breed Ambassador" and attends events all year long.  As far as the term 'Man's Best Friend' goes...Dharma is my Soul Dog.

Dharma is ATTS Certified and has Passed her CGC Test! Now onto Therapy Dog!

Onyx

(11 year old, Male)

Onyx came into PSBR as an owner surrender due to the economy. He was almost 8 years old and had been with them since 4 weeks of age. I fell in love with him almost instantly. Even if he was a bit intimidating with his size and strength. After his 6th application (and 6 changed minds) I decided that was enough, he was staying with me. Onyx is more puppy than any other that comes through here. He has this energy that surpasses them all. He's completely dog friendly and fit right into the pack. His ideal evening is laying across your lap and nursing on his blanket. Onyx has recently been diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumors. With his age, we're letting Onyx have the rest of his days surgery-free. He deserves to run & play until he lets me know he's done. And he wll let me know. My big baby...My Old Man.

Rico

(6 year old, Male)

Rico, Rico, Rico…I simply adore this gentle giant! I went on a transport pick-up with a friend to get Rico. He already had a foster home waiting for him. We were supposed to be picking up a Presa Canario, but when we got there we had a Fila (Brazilian Mastiff) Mix on our hands! I was INSTANTLY in love with Rico J

That night was very stormy. As I was going through his paperwork in the car,  noticed 2 things…One- they had DOG AGGRESSIVE (DA) in big, bold, red letters & Two- He was a very strong heartworm postive. The foster home wasn’t gong to be able to take him if he was DA. If he went to my friend’s home for the night he would have had to sleep in a kennel, in her garage. With this storm, I decided he could stay with me for the night and I would evaluate him while he was here. Yeah…well…he never left!

Rico is not DA. He does his job and protects me, from people or dogs, but he’s not DA for no reason. He’s a big Pile O’Mush! We are doing a ‘slow kill’ with his HW treatment and once he’s done, we’ll be trying our hand at Therapy work. I think he’d be perfect!
